Addressing stress in your life is very important because over time stress can cause damage to our nerves and to our internal organs, and it is a leading cause of heart attacks. It raises your blood pressure, causes your heart to beat faster, and puts undue pressure on all of your body’s important systems. For this reason managing it and even eliminating it is extremely necessary.
What can we do?
Take Up Writing
Writing is a great activity to help you to relieve stress. Good writers like Michael Volitich know that writing gives you the chance to get out your feeling and emotions in a form that is tangible. Some of the greatest writers have used their writing as stress relief and a way to express themselves and their emotions. If you are the type of person who is either introverted or has a difficulty letting their thoughts out, you should consider taking up writing and you might find that it fit the bill for a great stress reducer.
Focus on You and Learn to say NO!
Focusing on you means always putting yourself and your health first. When your boss asks you to stay late or work another weekend and you are absolutely exhausted, tell him or her that you simply cannot do it. Let this person know that you are exhausted and need to rest. Contrary to what you might think this is the best course of action for you and your company. If you’re stressed out you cannot perform your best and over the long-term you will deliver less for the company. Take the time off that you need for yourself to recharge and reinvigorate. The same can be said for when you are asked to involve yourself in family events. You might feel obligated to go, but what is more important is your being healthy. Tell your mom you have to miss the bar mitzvah, because you are exhausted and need to rest. Giving yourself an ability to say no will allow you to create situations for yourself or you can relieve the stress you’re feeling. As you feel more in control of things, you will feel less stress. It will be difficult to beginning, but it will get easier as time goes on.
**Get a Change of Scenery**
If you develop stress at one particular place over a time, even walking into that place will immediately make you stressed. When you notice this happening it means that you need a change of scenery. This might mean that you needed vacation or maybe even mean that you need to change jobs (or your girlfriend). Whatever the case, you need to take action because if you are having an uncontrolled negative reaction, it is very bad for your health and you need to listen to your body.
Before you do anything drastic however like changing your job or your girlfriend, give yourself a few days off or away from your girlfriend, and see how you feel. Do you feel that the clouds have lifted and hear the birds singing again? If the answer is yes to this question, it’s time to change some things around to protect your health.
